Adrian's latest book Fighting Churchill, Appeasing Hitler shines a remorseless light on the inner workings of the top level of British government as it lurched towards the Second World War. It reveals the muddled thinking and closed-loop decision making that imposed a policy that was supposed to prevent war, but instead made it almost inevitable.

It is published in the UK by Biteback Publishing and in the US by Pegasus Books

Adrian is fascinated by the usually hidden, often flawed  and sometimes discreditable processes by which governments take important decisions. He focuses on the networks of individuals and institutions which are the true deciders of events. He comments regularly on these themes through his blog, to public and private audiences and the broadcast media.

"....a remarkable coup.  By sedulous research he has been able to shed fresh light on the intricate political manoeuvres surrounding one of most studied episodes in our history..... an elegant and compelling book.” Piers Brendon, author of  Edward VIII: The Uncrowned King"

"This impressive book provides a detailed exposition of the case against appeasement. Written with clarity and verve, it draws on a vast range of unpublished material..." Lord Lexden, Official Historian of the Conservative Party in The House.
