The publication of The King Who Had To Go in October 2016 established Adrian Phillips as one of the most penetrating and original historians of this crucial and still controversial episode. Looking at the crisis in terms of the broader politics of the time gave an entirely fresh perspective and brought out its wider significance. The abdication was key in shaping the relationship between the modern British monarchy and the government and its influence can still be felt today.

Adrian comments regularly on these themes on TV, radio, social media and to private and public  audiences.
